Newsquest Herald & Evening Times will this afternoon make 31 newspaper vendors redundant as it revises its vending sales strategy to focus on retail sales and home deliveries.

The plans will see 31 sites around Glasgow’s city centre lost, although The Drum understands that 15 will be retained.

A memo to staff from managing director Tim Blott explained: “The group's newspaper division, like other British media companies, routinely reviews operations to boost those that are profitable while seeking efficiencies from those that are not.

“Changing social and commuting trends means we have to adapt our business to meet our customer preferences.

“The revised vending operation will still remain one of the largest operations of its kind in the country.”

Earlier today, The Drum revealed that Newsquest Herald & Evening Times was also reviewing its online strategy with the plan of introducing a subscription element to the Herald Scotland website by the end of the year.
