Creativity and accountancy seldom make comfortable bedfellows, so if keeping your books is keeping you awake at night register for MiNetwork's forthcoming webinar which will demonstrate the free to use Brightbook system.

Brightbook started as an idea in 2007 when James Henderson and Warwick Leicester of Brilliant Path faced the arduous task of doing their VAT returns. After trialling numerous accountancy software packages which proved to expensive and inefficient they decided to build their own bookkeeping system, which has since become Brightbook, which is freely available to all creatives and SMEs.

Henderson explains: “The first Brightbook was really just for us to use. It did everything we wanted it to do, and nothing more. Soon colleagues were using it, then our wider circle of friends in the creative industries. We decided that it would be free, always, for everyone (and that we'd only charge in the future for additional features).

“We went from having 500 users to a couple of thousand over a fairly short period of time. That was due to some unexpected praise on a few blogs, such as Grafik. We got some incredibly useful and encouraging feedback over that year. That made us decide to start again, new interface, new everything. We knew that we could significantly improve on the first version and starting again was easier, as we had a clear blueprint. Having hundreds of bright, articulate users who tell you what they want, and how they want it is a powerful thing.”

The second version was launched earlier this year and offers users a range of additional functions to make raising invoices, chasing unpaid invoices and managing tax and VAT returns, all of which will be demonstrated in a MiNetwork webinar on Tuesday 30 August at 3pm.
