Edinburgh's Telford College is launching Android and iPhone apps to give students access to college information at the touch of a button.

The college says the app, developed with Smartphone Media, will replace the traditional paper learner handbook and will let users tap into a range of college resources such as timetables and attendance information.

They will also be able to share hints and tips in areas such as funding and learner support, access an interactive diary and participate in surveys.

Miles Dibsdall, principal at Edinburgh’s Telford College, said: “There’s no escaping it, we live in a world of technology and our young learners are amongst some of the biggest users of mobile technology. Almost all of them own or have access to a smartphone.

“If successful and most importantly if our learners do find it useful, we will look to develop further apps in the future, which will help aid the learning process and make the college experience all the more enjoyable.”

The mobile app will be available from 12 September. The college is aiming to develop a Blackberry version later in the year.
