The Sunday Herald sees 11% rise in sales over last month

The Sunday Herald has seen its circulation figures grow in the last month with an increase of 11.2% rise in average sales between June and July, while Scotland on Sunday saw a fall of nearly 5%.

The Newsquest title seems to be have been one of several newspapers to benefit from the closure of the News of the World last month, increasing its sales from 29,233 to 32,508, while rival paper Scotland on Sunday fell from average sales of 51,053 to 48,797 (-4.81%).

However, year on year figures reveal that The Sunday Herald has witnessed a circulation decline of nearly 25% between February and July in comparison with last year, industry figures have revealed.

The latest ABC figures have revealed that the Scottish National Sunday newspaper saw its circulation numbers decline by 24.95% with 31,281 sales, in comparison with the 41,678 it sold on average during the same period last year.

Scotland on Sunday saw a less severe decline of 6.16%, falling from 56,472 to 52,993 average copies being sold.

The daily broadsheet circulation figures also declined month-on-month with The Scotsman losing 3.47% falling from 40,390 average sales to 38,987 and the Herald losing 2.56% at 47,226 from 48,465.

Year on year figures for both papers show that The Herald has lost 9.5% of its circulation from the same period of last year when it was averaging 52,182 sales a day, and The Scotsman has lost 9.2%, having sold 42,850 a year ago.

Other Sunday titles have also benefited from the loss of the News of the World to the marketplace.
