Allied Bakeries has announced that its Kingsmill brand will be an official partner of The Big Lunch 2012.

The aim of The Big Lunch is to get as many people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours on one day.

In 2012, The Big Jubilee Lunch is being held as part of the programme coordinated by Buckingham Palace for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, celebrating 60 years of her reign. There is a programme of events taking place over the 4 day bank holiday weekend, Saturday 2 to Tuesday 5 June 2012, and with The Big Jubilee Lunch takes place on the Sunday, 3 June.

As well as the event being promoted with a PR campaign, Kingsmill will carry an on-pack promotion from March.

Tim Smit, chief executive and co-founder of the Eden Project, which came up with the idea for The Big Lunch, said: “We are pleased to have Kingsmill joining us as a partner of the fourth annual Big Lunch event in 2012, The Big Jubilee Lunch. The Big Lunch is such a simple idea, but brings together to the key ingredients for building stronger communities – neighbours, friendship and food.”

The Big Lottery Fund and MasterCard are also sponsors of the event.
