The Associated Press (AP) has revealed the international interest in the English riots, with 249 stations accessing its video footage of events – and 98% of these coming from outside the UK.

AP has said that the footage has been viewed 15,600 times in all, making it the media company’s number one story for the past seven days.

The company has said that Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Australia, and China are amongst the countries which have been using the video footage.

It has been suggested that the riots are gaining so much interest worldwide because of the London 2012 Olympics next year, and fears over safety for visitors during the events. Spokespeople from the Olympics have said that safety is ‘top priority’ next year.
