Hearst Magazines UK has closed two of its brands, She and Cosmpolitan Bride, following the acquisition of Elle and Red.

This follows “fierce” competition within the sector, which saw the circulation of both titles fall 3.7%. In contrast both Elle and Red are currently adding readers, with both titles reporting year-on-year sales increases. The portfolio shakeup was announced by Hearst chief executive Arnaud de Puyfontaine, who wrote in an internal memo to staff: “As a business that believes strongly in the future of print, it is never an easy decision to close a magazine and we have looked long and hard at all options. "However, we are taking this decisive action now to strengthen our overall portfolio, focusing our investment on our stronger titles and digital expansion".
