A Malaysian TV station has taken a series of Ramadan ads off air after they elicited a storm of protest from non-Muslims for insulting ethnic minorities.

Outlining a series of do’s and don’ts for people in the predominantly Muslim nation during the month long religious festival the ads depicted an ethnic Chinese woman blundering around market stalls in a revealing blouse, being obnoxious and eating freely.

Viewers were urged not to repeat these faux pas in public by refraining from public gluttony, risqué clothing and loudness.

Critics pointed out that the commercials, aired on 8TV, were imposing Islamic practices on non-muslims and stereotyped the minority Chinese community.
