The Leith Agency creates its own beer brand

The Leith Agency creates its own beer brand

The Leith Agency is showing there is life after lager clients by designing and launching its own beer brand.

The Edinburgh-based agency has previously worked with the likes of Grolsch, Coors and Tennent's, but for the first time in 25 years it finds itself without a beer account.

To compensate, it has created its own golden ale called The Maid in Leith, its nautical name and branding inspired by the Water of Leith that surrounds the agency's office.

It brewed up the beer with a little help from the Williams Brothers Brewery and plans to donate any profits to The Water of Leith Conservation Trust.

You can read more about Maid in Leith over on the agency's blog. The beer also has its own website, which has been created by Blonde Digital, Twitter and Facebook pages.

I think it's great. Friday desk beer would taste extra special in Leith. Put me down for a bottle.

If all profits go to a worthy charity, why is it a waste of money?

Haters will always hate someone doing something interesting. I think it's a pretty awesome idea. More agencies should push what they preach.

Find it pretty unbelievable that anyone can hate on this. All the money is going to a worthy charity and it's great to see an agency doing something proactive rather than just sitting around (or bending over) to do whatever their clients demand.

Wow that was a long sentence.

Haters get back to designing your leaflets. Or maybe grab a beer and chill the fudge out.

Why don't more agencies launch their own products? Surely it should be encouraged!

slightly surprised this needs pointing out but to the rose tinted spec crew, although the charity angle can justify pretty much any desperate act, the real sadness is that it graphically highlights how far leith have fallen. from handling global heavyweights they're reduced to a home brewing kit. anyone that cannot see the blindlingly obvious has been in scotland too long.

The beer is distributed by Williams brothers brewery. We have produced 5,000 bottles in our first production run, all of which we pre sold to pubs, restaurants and agency contacts before the beer had been bottled. It will be promoted in local press, at POS and through PR and social media. Every penny the leith agency makes goes to charity.

"I agree with some of the other comments. This feels like someone has got too much time on their hands."

who fucking cares if they have. at least they're doing something fun/productive with not wasting time spouting bollocks. the market seems so much more head down and graft at the moment it's nice that some agencies are taking a step back an remembering why they love this industry.

Graeme, I think that 'that'll shut everyone up!' remark was in response to Gillian's post - where she answered all of the criticism from the leaflet warriors..

Stunned by the Venom a side project can recieve. It's a beer. A lot of people worked in there own time on this, it's a bit of fun. People being creative and pro-active. Is that really a bad thing? If you don't like it, don't drink it. But it is good. f

The opportunity exists to donate time, money & expertise to charities all year round. I'm sure many worthwhile charities would have loved the opportunity to benefit from a helping creative hand from Leith but this misses the mark for me. Losing accounts & focus while your having fun on this type of project for lets be honest probably a small charity gain is not productive, get real get back in the game or get out!!

You should have spent more time in school Steve, rather than mooching off down the snooker hall. That's a cracking spelling of 'pitiful'.

Hello everyone. I find it really weird that nobody here knows about Neil French. You sad lot are supposed to work in the field. He did the exact same thing, only better. And did it a long time ago. Remind me again why this is news?
