It has been reported that Steve Jarratt, group senior editor at Bath-based Future, will be among the first high-profile casualties of its consultation process in which the company could make up to 10% of its staff redundant.

According to MCV, Jarratt, who is currently editor of Future’s 3D World title, will be leaving the company at the end of September, when the company hopes to have completed the consultation process.

Jarratt’s 25-year career in journalism has seen him named Games Media Legend at the 2008 Games Media Awards, launch a number of magazines, including Edge, Official UK PlayStation Magazine and T3 and oversee redesigns of many other top titles.

The consultation process follows a trading statement from Future which revealed continued difficulties in its print portfolio, especially in the US and an intention to accelerate the transition of some of its titles to digital-only platforms.

Last month The Drum revealed that the company would be seeking to reorganise its editorial teams into ‘hubs’ in order to cut costs.

The company has since announced that eight of its titles will be sold or closed.
