Global festival, Social Media Week this year will kick off in Glasgow with the first event for the week set to take place in the city.

Having begun to announce the schedule for some of the events to be held around the world when the festival begins in September, Glasgow event ‘Crowdsourcing, Killing Creativity’ has been placed as the first event.

Scheduled to kick-off at 8am on Monday 19 September at a venue that has yet to be decided, the event will look at the strain that is being place on the creative industry as a result of social media and, with so many ideas available to brands who are able to contact consumers for ideas directly, will they stop investing in creativity?

Also set to take place in Glasgow during the week is a seminar on social media within the Voluntary sector, a workshop on Crowdfunding and the creation of a viral advert, a discussion about embracing social media within customer service, run by Peach Digital and an interactive workshop entitled ‘Getting Hired Through Social Media’.

This first judging session for the Social Buzz Awards will also take place as part of the Glasgow event that week.

More events will be announced in the coming weeks building towards the week, with the initial schedule available to view here.

Social Media Week is also set to take place at the same time in Beirut, Berlin, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Los Angeles, Milan, Moscow, Rio de Janiero, São Paulo and Vancouver. The Glasgow event is being sponsored by Equator.
