The Huffington Post and Microsoft upset mourning Amy Winehouse fans, Ally McCoist hits out at the BBC and a Salford superhero becomes an online phenomenon.

“In retrospect I wouldn’t have posted it. I didn’t know about ‘linkbaiting’ until Sunday night… The Huffington Post tell bloggers to make posts topical – they’re the ones benefiting. I searched but there is no way to take it down.”

Marketer Tricia Fox explains her actions after being roundly condemned for writing a Huffington Post blog telling small businesses what they can learn from Amy Winehouse, the singer who died last weekend.

"Remember Amy Winehouse by downloading the ground-breaking ‘Back to Black’ over at Zune."

Microsoft's UK PR team is also accused of insensitivity after sending out this ill-advised tweet from the official @tweetbox360 account.

"I must apologise to Mr Morgan and the committee for this error about his book.”

MP Louise Mensch admits she was wrong to accuse former tabloid editor Piers Morgan of phone-hacking after misquoting his autobiography in a Commons Select Committee.

“I wouldn’t describe it as a ‘fall out’. It’s just that we have different ideas about the future direction of the business and now is a good time to change.”

Wolfstar CEO Stuart Bruce denies that his decision to leave the agency has been prompted by a row with business partner Tim Sinclair.

"Overall we stand by the merits of our report revealing the extent of violence after Old Firm derbies and the cost of policing these matches. However, we do accept that the sequence involving comments from Rangers' manager Alistair McCoist could have given the impression that he did not take the issue seriously."

The BBC apologises for a report that made it appear as though Rangers manager Ally McCoist was smirking while a news reporter questioned him about behaviour during last season’s Old Firm games.

"I was appalled by the BBC's coverage last Friday and the club will not tolerate this type of reporting... I have always been generous with my time as the media play an important role in modern football but I will not tolerate being portrayed in the manner I was last week. Having worked in television for many years, with the BBC, I know exactly what was done last Friday and I was disgusted with their editing of the pre-Hearts press conference."

McCoist, a former captain of the BBC show A Question of Sport, expresses his anger at the way he had been portrayed.

"I’ve had the time of my life at GMG Radio, joining when the group was about to launch its second station, Real Scotland, and I will truly miss the people. But I’m extremely excited about the potential for Rock Radio and will now be able to fully focus on acquiring the station."

Current Real Radio and Rock Radio managing director Billy Anderson reveals that he is to leave GMG Radio to embark on a takeover bid for Rock Radio in Scotland.

“Whilst I am pleased to have had the opportunity to consider this, I have taken the decision to step down as Chief Executive of Marketing Leeds. This has been a difficult decision and one not taken lightly. However, in order to end speculation and to allow a fresh recruitment process to commence, I feel it is important to announce this decision.”

Following speculation Deborah Green announces that she will step down as chief executive of Marketing Leeds in October.

"With a limited marketing budget, nine times out of ten, I’d recommend spending it on PR, search engine optimisation or pay per click... As with all marketing, the secret is to ignore the hype and look at the facts. The truth is that the majority of companies are wasting valuable manpower and financial resources on social media."

PR boss Gordon Beattie tells clients they should stop wasting their precious budgets on social media campaigns and invest instead in... erm... PR.

"He’s every girl’s hero…maybe I could be his side kick and he could come out on patrol with me. We’d be like Batman and Robin!”

MP Hazel Blears swoons over Salford crimefighter Knight Warrior - aka 19-year-old gardener Roger Hayhurst - after the Manchester Evening News turned the part-time superhero into an internet sensation.
