The Glasgow Hogmanay Street party has been scrapped by Glasgow City Council as favour of more ‘family-friendly’ events.

The decision is understood to have been taken due to concerns by the council over its value for money.

Interest in the New Year’s celebration has waned in recent years when the council began to charge for entry to George Square.

The decision will have no affect on the New Year’s Party in Edinburgh.
