AOL is to close its music and sports websites in the UK in order to focus on its biggest brands and the UK Huffington Post.

Sports website FanHouse is expected to close in September, but will not outsource sports content like AOL did upon closing down the US FanHouse earlier this year.

An AOL spokesperson told paidContent: “This is about a rationalisation of sites in order to enable us to focus on our biggest brands, which are core to our strategy and take in women’s lifestyle (for example MyDaily, Parentdish, Lifestyle…), mens sites such as Autos and Asylum, Finance and, of course, the recently-launched HuffPost UK (something we are actively hiring further roles for at the moment).”

It has been reported that some jobs are under consultation.
