Discovery, the US broadcaster, has struck a deal with Britain’s BSkyB and Virgin Media to produce its first 3D content shows outwith America.

A series of programmes will be produced under the deal, including 3D Safari, a 10 part series of hour long shows filmed at Woburn Abbey safari park made by Renegade Pictures and Beautiful Freaks, a one off special filmed in Namibia by Tigress Productions.

In addition to natural history content Discovery will also produce a series of programming in genres including engineering, extreme sports and crime.

Shows to be aired in the UK include a number from 3NET, a 3D joint venture in the US between Discovery, Sony and IMAX.

3NET has set itself a target of producing/acquiring over 200 hours of 3D content by the end of the year.
