The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned the press advert for Panasonic UL594 vacuum cleaner.

The advert was deemed to breech the CAP guidelines under truthfulness and substantiation.

Points raised by complainants were the use of the words “unrivalled suction power for an upright bagless vacuum” and “maximum efficiency” without any supporting tests or evidence to prove this. The ASA concluded that these phrases were likely to mislead.

The TV advert, which used the words “incredible suction power” did not come under breach of the CAP (broadcast) code, and therefore has not been banned.
