HM Inspectorate of Constabulary is to review alleged police corruption and relationships with the media, Home Secretary Theresa May has announced in the House of Commons.

Recommendations will be maid to May after the HMIC considers instances of "undue influence, inappropriate contractual arrangements and other abuses of power in police relationships with the media and other parties".

The announcement came after the decision by assistant commissioner for the Met, John Yates, decided to resign following a decision to suspend him over the initial investigation into News International.

May has also announced that Elizabeth Filkin, former parliamentary commissioner for standards, has provisionally agreed to examine the relationship between Police and the press.
