Tom Mockridge, chief executive of News Corporation's Italian satellite broadcasting arm Sky Italia, has been appointed to take over as chief executive of News International, following the resignation of Rebekah Brooks. We look at his biography.

Mockridge’s journalistic career started as a newspaper journalist in New Zealand.

Before joining Sky Italia, Mockridge held various roles at Star Group Limited and was previously CEO of Foxtel, News Corporation’s Pay-TV joint venture with Telstra.

Mockridge joined News Corporation in January 1991, working for Ken Cowley, chairman and chief executive of the Australian newspaper company News Limited.

He has been the Sky Italia chief executive since its launch in 2003, having led the merger between Stream and Telepui. In May he was appointed to the additional role of chief executive of European Television. Then, in February 2009, he was made a non-executive director of the BSkyB board.
