Graphic design studio Studio LR has set up a new placement scheme with Edinburgh Napier University, with the inaugural award going to student Dave King for his motion graphics work.

Under the scheme a £250 cash prize and a paid two-week work placement at StudioLR will go to the best final year BDes (Hons) Graphic Design student at the University.

This year’s inaugural award went to Dave King (24) from Edinburgh whose major project was a piece of motion graphics created to pose questions around the issue of censorship.

Lucy Richards, StudioLR creative director said: “StudioLR has always supported design education through student placements and believes that this is an essential part of any student’s understanding of the industry they will be entering on graduation.

“We were excited to hear that Edinburgh Napier University was offering a Graphic Design Degree course and offered the StudioLR prize as a way of encouraging the connection between industry and education.”

She added that Dave’s two week placement had been quickly extended to three months with a view to a further extension depending on the studio’s workload.

“Dave has proved to be a professional, inspiring and hard working member of our design team and it’s a delight to have him here in the studio.

“The standard of presentation at the Edinburgh Napier Degree Show was outstanding and it was refreshing to see such a variety of approaches to projects, design styles and depth of thought applied by the students. There were some exceptional individual projects on show.”
