News Corporation to be helped by PR firm Edelman
News Corporation has called in public relations firm Edelman to help deal with communications activity over the coming weeks.
The PR firm will report to Will Lewis, News International's general manager.
Over the past two weeks, the media organisation has dealt with phone hacking allegations, the closure of news of the World because the brand was ‘toxic’ and ditching the BSkyB takeover bid.
Ed Williams, the BBC director of communications, is to join Edelman in October as CEO. He will not be involved in this PR activity.
There had previously been rumours that Matthew Freud, founder of PR firm Freud Communications and husband of Rupert Murdoch's daughter, Elisabeth Murdoch, had been advising News Corp. The company denied this.
