The Department of Media, Culture and Sport Committee has announced that it is to invite News Corporation owner Rupert Murdoch and News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks to appear at a meeting next week.

A tweet sent by Conservative MP Therese Coffey says that the pair will be invited to the meeting next Tuesday to discuss the revelations being made about phone hacking practices at the News of the World which is currently the centre of a second police investigation.

Police chiefs are currently being questioned by MPs about the first investigation, which failed to uncover most of the information that has been revealed in recent weeks including the hacking of murdered schoolgirl Millie Dowler’s mobile phone.
