BBC Scotland is considering research which could lead to more Scottish news being broadcast, and a reduction in ‘devolved’ issues, according the corporation’s annual report.

The report states that the Audience Council advised the BBC Trust that it believed that there was more demand for Scottish news as a result of research which was undertaken.

It has requested that less coverage of matter that affect England should be broadcast, as part of an offering of UK and international news. The members also said that they believed that by responding to this research would improve audience perception of how well the BBC reflected local interests and deliver the corporation’s democratic purpose in Scotland.

According to the report, the Trust’s Audiences and Performance Committee took the advice into account and will explore the issues in greater depth with the Council in the autumn.

The Audience Council for Scotland is made up of Bill Matthews, Alison Bigrigg, Beth Culshaw, David Garrick, Munwar Hussain, Tricia Jordan, Jamie Kinlochan, Neil McIntosh, Iseabail McTaggart, Callum Thomson and Lesley Thomson.
