Virgin Media ‘fastest broadband’ advert banned by ASA
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has told Virgin Media it not allowed to broadcast its ‘fastest broadband’ advert in broadcast or non-broadcast form.
The ASA ruling came after 10 complaints were put forward by eight different consumers/businesses about a series of adverts shown between September and November 2010.
It was agreed that the adverts did not state what products were being compared against and that there were some areas which could receive faster broadband speeds than were being put forward by Virgin. The adverts were therefore found to be in breach of misleading advertising and comparisons with identifiable competitors rules.
However, some complaints against the adverts were not upheld.
The ASA decided that because the adverts breached misleading advertising rules, they could not be reshown in their current form.
