BSkyB deal sent to Competition Commission
Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt has referred the BSkyB takeover deal to the Competition Commission today.
The announcement was made in the House of Commons that the attempted takeover of BSkyB by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp would be sent to the Competition Commission who would consider "all relevant recent developments" when evaluating the merger.
This was a clear hint towards the recent phone hacking allegations made against News Corp’s News of the World.
News Corp has said that they will not sell off Sky News as part of the takeover, as they previously said they would.
It comes on the same day that it was announced that several royals may have had their phones hacked.
