The Chartered Institute of Public Relations has revealed that it will be tackling standards in journalism in its next timely live broadcast.

In a programme on its CIPR TV channel, the public relations body will examine whether business pressures are eroding standards in journalism, whether its credibility is at stake and what the longer term threats are.

CIPR TV presenters Gemma Griffiths and Stephen Waddington will be joined by Martin Moore, director of Media Standards Trust, and Claire Wardle PhD, co-founder of Ultra Social.

They will also look at whether the growth of social media presents an even bigger risk to journalism than the next editorial scandal.

Waddington said: "In the discussion about the future of media, business models and the role of professional journalism are almost always incorrectly interchanged. Financial pressures on media organisations to deliver news content mean that professional journalists have never had it so tough.

Social media is undoubtedly making the news more participatory, yet journalistic integrity and accuracy remains fundamental to democracy.”

Viewers will be able to tweet in questions live and in advance using the hashtag #ciprtv.
