PR agency Bell Pottinger has been brought in to handle communications for a consortium that plans to aquire a majority stake in Stockport County Football Club.

The public relations drive is being overseen by Bell Pottinger North director John Butters, who represents Liverpool businessman and head of the consortium Tony Evans.

The agency's work has already seen it organise this week's press conference at which former Liverpool midfielder and German international Dietmar Hamann was unveiled as County's new manager.

“Our role is to communicate key developments and manage some of the speculation surrounding the investment,” said Butters.

“Tony is keen to be as transparent as possible, but everyone needs to understand that there will be times during the investment process when there will be a vacuum of information – either because there is nothing to say or because of confidentially clauses.”

Bell Pottinger North previously represented the former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra during his ownership of Manchester City FC, and the consultancy has also worked with Azerbaijani club Gabala FC and Soccerex.
