Rupert Murdoch, owner of News International, could meet with the families of the bereaved victims of 7/7, the Dowler family and the families of Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells after it was revealed that they had each been targeted by the News of the World as part of its phone hacking practices.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4 this morning, Simon Greenberg, head of corporate communications for News International said that it was possible the Murdoch would meet with the families, after one of the fathers of a victim killed in the London bombings who had his phone hacked by journalists, said that he would like to meet with him.

The request for a meeting was made by Graham Foulkes, whose son David was killed in the Edgware Road tube station bombing during an interview with Justin Webb on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

“It is certainly something that we could consider,” commented Greenberg, when asked about the possibility over Murdoch meeting with those families targeted.

He also said that he was unable to comment on the implications for those within the company who were aware of any ‘wrong doing’ and that those who commissioned the hacking of the families were yet to be identified.

“There have been a lot of revelations that are new to us and in regards to all three of these cases, we were shocked,” he added.

Greenberg also said that the company would keep the families informed of any information they found within their own files and record, and that any new information uncovered would be handed to police.

He also denied that new information was handed to police during a ‘scheduled meeting’ yesterday when it was claimed that police officers had been paid ‘10’s of thousands’ of pounds for information.

News International has been working with investigating police into the phone hacking practices at the News of the World since the case was reopened in January, when Greenberg also joined the company.
