News of the World publishers say they are ‘close’ to discovering who commissioned Dowler hacking
The News of the World publishers have said that they are ‘very close’ to discovering who commissioned the alleged hacking of Milly Dowler’s phone.
Simon Greenberg, the company's director of corporate affairs, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "We are very close to, we believe, identifying an individual or individuals who potentially commissioned this act."
He did not say if those involved still work at News of the World, but said he was ‘clear’ that the hacking was not commissioned by then-editor Rebekah Brooks.
The news follows allegations that the families of the victims of 7/7 had their phones hacked.
A three-hour emergency session in the House of Commons to debate the phone-hacking is taking place today.
