A tabloid newspaper has revealed that BBC Scotland TV weather forecaster Cat Cubie is charging at least £2000 a time for personal appearances.

The Scottish Daily Mail reports: “Only days ago, the glamorous Scots TV weather girl said her bank balance was about as dismal as a Scottish summer.

“The star works at a wide range of corporate events such as industry awards ceremonies. The 29-year-old, who regularly sets hearts racing with her daring outfits, has called in a London management company to help raise her profile and earning power.”

The report goes on: “Miss Cubie is not the first BBC presenter to try to use  her fame for financial advantage. But her £2000 fee falls short of other well-known faces such as BBC Scotland news presenter Jackie Bird.

“Miss Bird was paid £5000 to host the Scottish Offshore Achievement Awards. Fellow BBC newsreader Sally Magnusson received £4000 for the same event in 2009.

“BBC Scotland presenter and comedian Fred MacAulay collected £12,000 for acting as master of ceremonies at two dinners during 2010, while hosting the Scottish Enterprise Visitor Experience brought in £3450 for Stephen Jardine, former co-presenter of STV’s The Hour.

“In her recent revelations on Twitter, Miss Cubie, a former host of BBC’s Euromillions show, said:  ‘I’m lucky to be following my dreams but whilst I’m waiting for my next fabulous job, I (and my bank manager) thought I better try to make a few extra bob.

“’It’s not that I’m bad with money – I am Scottish, after all’.”

agree with all the above, what's the story here? presenter charges for her services as a presenter, at competative rate? So....? Or just an excuse to have an indirect pop at the BBC for some reason?

Hot news - people get paid for doing corporate events. What did you think - they did them for free?

All the fees seems pretty resonable - if an event organioser wants to pay less or more there are plenty of other on the market doing the same job.

Since The Drum find this so newsworthy, can the Editor reveal what Carnyx pay celebs for hosting their various events?
