The BBC has issued an apology following complaints of ‘over-talking’ by commentators during Wimbledon.

One commentator who angered viewers was Andrew Castle, with a thread of complaints on the Points of View website dedicated to his commentary. Complaints were made that he turned the tennis into a ‘light entertainment show’ with celebrity mentions.

One viewer was angry with Castle’s ‘constant negative comments’ about Andy Murray, although this claim was debated by other watchers.

In a statement on its complaints website, the BBC said: "Views on our commentary are of course subjective and we do appreciate that over-talking can irritate our audience.

"We hope that across our coverage we have achieved the right balance and have accurately reflected the event, but we are of course sorry if on occasion you have not been satisfied."
