Prescott says Murdoch is "not a fit and proper person" to own BskyB
Lord Prescott has shown his displeasure over the idea of Rupert Murdoch owning BSkyB in a statement to the House of Lords.
News Corp, which owns the Sun and the Times newspapers, wants to buy the 61% of shares in the company it does not already own.
After the news that culture secretary Jeremy Hunt will provisionally allow Murdock to sell Sky news in order to not create a media monopoly, the Labour former deputy prime minister said: "This man, to my mind, is not a fit and proper person to be purchasing such an organisation.
"I can't help but feel that this decision came shortly after the Prime Minister met Mr Murdoch - a few days later we get the decision. Of course I can't say that anything happened there but we have a decision of change and a commitment to this."
Hunt will make a decision about whether to allow this buy-out, or refer it to the Competition Commission by midday on 8 July.
