Sponsors of London 2012 have now begun bidding for advertising spots on the Olympics website, apps and all other digital sources.

The sale itself of the advertising space is not for another two weeks, but large sponsors, such as Coca-Cola and Adidas, are getting the chance to stake their claims before other companies.

The Direct Marketing Association has said the sponsors can bid for space on the news section, photo galleries, travel information and medal tables on both the Olympic and Paralympic websites.

The website currently has no adverts, but does feature the logos of all sponsors involved.

Non-sponsors will face restriction with advertising and marketing around the time of the Olympic Games, including not creating an association with the games unless they are an official sponsor, and not using the word ‘Olympic’ in marketing material or domain names.
