Digital specialty agency Shout Media has created an employment law iPhone app for Newcastle based law firm Dickinson Dees.

The app, named HR alert, provides the legal firm with a management system to modify the app’s content to provide real-time HR legislation.

The free app, available on iTunes, also allows people to work out how much maternity leave they need, when they need to have worked from to quality, and when they need to hand in paperwork.

Phil Harvey, head of application development at Shout Digital, said: “Deploying a new version to the App Store can take up to a week to be approved by Apple and even then the changes would only apply to new or existing users who choose to download the update.

“This is not acceptable for an app that users rely on to provide the most up-to-date advice regarding HR law. It is important that a user such as an HR manager is aware of the latest legislation which can often change on a regular basis.

“To solve this problem Shout developed a web based content management system which allows Dickinson Dees to make updates to both the news section with cases of interest and changes in the law, and the rules that govern the HR calculator logic that the app uses.

“Whenever a user launches the app it will connect to the internet and download the latest content and calculator rules from the content management system. This ensures that both new and existing users are receiving correct legal advice at all times.”
