Met police name Rebekah Brooks as NoW hacking victim

News International title The Times has revealed that the Metropolitan Police have named their own chief executive, Rebekah Brooks, as the latest phone hacking victim.

Brooks, who formerly edited the News of the World worked for The Sun at the time of the hacks and was reportedly one of the most frequently hacked victims, with her voicemails intercepted more than 20 times.

The story bolsters News International’s claim that senior management were out of the loop in regard to the machinations of what they termed rogue reporters.

A spokesperson said: “News International can confirm that Rebekah Brooks was recently shown documents by the police that proved she was a victim of illegal voicemail interception.”

In a separate development footballer Ryan Giggs has begun legal action against the NoW over his own concerns at having his voicemails intercepted.
