Cornwall food and farming has launched a new website aimed at children.

The website, which aims to educate children about farming in Cornwall and how the food it produces arrives on their plate, features photos, games, recipes and sound effects.

The website aims to be an informative and fun way for primary school children to get a better understanding of agriculture and food production in Cornwall.

As well as information on what is happening on the farm and what produce is in season, there is a list of farms to visit, background stories about iconic Cornish foods and a monthly archive of things to look out for.

In creating this the website CFFG wants to foster in future generations of consumers an enthusiasm for local produce which has so many benefits in terms of the local economy, the environment (reducing food miles) and our health (fresher, more nutritious food).

“We want to encourage children to take an interest in what is happening in the countryside around them, to make a connection with local producers and farmers, and understand what is being produced, when it is produced and what makes it special,” said CFFG 's spokesman Hilary Wood.

The website was made by Streamline Web Design and has been paid for by funds raised by CFFG members and with sponsorship from the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association and other members of the farming community.
