Judge refuses to lift Sir Fred Goodwin injunction
A High Court judge has refused to lift an injunction banning journalists from naming a woman alledged to have had an affair with former RBS bank boss Sir Fred Goodwin.
Mr Justice Tugendhat rejected a claim by lawyers representing The Sun and the News of the World that it was in the public interest to lift the order completely.
But he did relent that the papers could publish details of the woman's job.
Mr Justice Tugendhat said News Group Newspapers' application "succeeds in part and fails in part".
He said the reason the injunction had not been fully lifted was "not to keep a secret but to prevent intrusion and distress" to the woman concerned.
