Nintendo has unveiled its next generation games console, the Wii U, at the E3 games conference in Los Angeles.

As ever Nintendo are vying to shake things up in the market with a slew of new features, notably with a controller that mimics a tablet PC.

Featuring a 6.2in touchscreen alongside a camera, joystick and buttons, the device can be used to play games by itself as well as being plugged into a TV for HD gameplay..

Moreover the gizmo can also be used to make calls and will be backward compatible with existing Wii paraphernalia such as games and controllers.

This is all geared toward achieving the holy grail in videogames, unifying the casual and hardcore markets behind a single platform.

Nintendo intends to bring the new device to market between April and December 2012 at a price point still to be determined.
