Commons Speaker John Bercow has described the Daily Mail as a “sexist, racist, bigoted, comic cartoon strip” and apologised for also describing it as a “newspaper” yesterday.

According to The Guardian, Bercow’s comments were made during a question and answer session with Steve Richards, chief political commentator for The Independent in London.

During the session Bercow also discussed members of Parliament abusing parliamentary privilege by mentioning information protected by super injunctions, where he said that no super injunction would prevent his colleagues from debating issues.

He also described the injunctions as ‘undesirable’ but also criticised MP John Hemming for using parliament to twice reveal details of super-injunctions.
