Cardiff has been identified as a possible hub for Britain’s creative industries in HSBC’s The Future of Business 2011 report.

The report has identified seven “super-cities” that are poised to deliver business growth and job creation; these include Bristol, Glasgow, Newcastle, London, Leeds, Brighton and Liverpool.

While not listed as a potential super-city, the report highlighted Cardiff as a centre for creative industries such as television and film.

The news follows the BBC’s decision to move filming of a number of its successful Dramas to the city, including Casualty and Doctor Who.

Hywel Thomas, a spokesman for Cardiff & Co the company which promotes the capital has said that the BBC’s new drama village will act as a catalyst for attracting other media-related companies to the area.

“The city is already a popular filming location, which in itself provides very positive exposure for the city-region,” said Thomas.

“There are obviously many reasons for this, one being the diversity of the region’s physical landscape within a very small area and another being the pool of expertise that is here to facilitate television and film production.”
