Scottish advertising agency Story has produced a new advertising campaign for the launch of Ardbeg Alligator whisky.

For the release of the new whisky, so-called because of the method of charring the casks into an alligator-scale effect before adding the spirit, the Edinburgh based agency produced an in-house mockumentary about the alligators roaming the island of Islay where the distillery is based.

The short film was co-directed by David Boni and Kirk Hendry, with post-production and animation by Th1ng.

Dave Mullen, creative director of Story said: “After just 24 hours this is looking like it could be Ardbeg’s most successful launch ever.”

Ardbeg Single Malt, which has used Story for other campaigns and to create its e-commerce site, made 6000 bottles of Ardbeg Alligator available to Ardbeg Committee members before the general release in September.

Hamish Torrie, Ardbeg brand director said: “The Committee bottling is just a few thousand bottles to get the discussion going and we hope that as many members as possible will attend tastings ahead of the general release if they miss out on a bottle now.”
