The Sun presses for Goodwin affair woman’s privacy order to be lifted

A privacy order introduced to protect the identity of a woman who allegedly had an affair with Fred Goodwin is to be the subject of a request for a lifting of the privacy order as The Sun goes to court to argue that Twitter speculation has rendered it obsolete.

Lawyers acting for the celebrities have been engaged in a battle with Twitter to prevent their client’s names from being disseminated on the social networking site, with minimal success.

A fresh list was tweeted out last night, although not all the information it contained was accurate, has been intermittently removed and restored.

The latest courtroom machinations follow the unmasking of a blogger known as ‘Mr Monkey’ by Twitter following a court order served by South Tyneside Council.

Microbloggers are able to use readily available software however to route internet traffic via a worldwide volunteer network of servers, ensuring that their true identity cannot be obtained.
