Coca-Cola joins with music and sports celebrities as it starts a nationwide search for young people to carry the Olympic torch.

The ‘Future Flames’ search is backed by various celebrities such as Dizzee Rascal, Eliza Doolittle and You Me At 6, as well as Judo Commonwealth Championship gold medallist Tom Davis.

These celebrities have been named as ambassadors of the project, as they embody the type of person which Coca-Cola and the London Olympics wish to attract to be torch carriers, with a website set up for nominations.

The campaign starts tonight – 1 June – with the musical ambassadors performing in London.

Nominations can be made until September 5 2011. Coca-Cola is looking for young people of Britain who have a passion for activities such as sport and physical activity music and dance, and community and the environment.

James Quincey, President, Northwest Europe & Nordics, The Coca-Cola Company, said:

“Every day young people do great things in their communities, going the extra mile and using their interests and passions for sport, music, dance and the environment, to make a difference to others.

“The chance to carry the Olympic Flame during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay is a once in a generation opportunity.

“I’m delighted that through our Future Flames campaign, Coca-Cola is able to recognise, reward and celebrate the young people who spread happiness and make Britain burn brighter.

“I hope everyone in the UK nominates the Future Flames they know to help re-dress the misperceptions about young people, and celebrate the positive contributions they make to their communities.”

London 2012 wants half of the 8,000 torchbearers to be aged 12-24 years.
