TalkSport breakfast show presenter Alan Brazil has called upon his listeners to boycott FIFA’s sponsors in order to force the football world body’s President Sepp Blatter to stand down.

Blatter caused uproar yesterday during a ‘press conference’ in which he denied that the organisation was ‘in crisis’ following the suspension of two officials on suspicion of corruption, including vice president Jack Warner. This was followed by the other man, Blatter's presidential rival, Mohammed bin Hammamm, producing an email that alleged that Qatar has paid for the right to host the World Cup in 2022.

Blatter used a conference with the media to deny that the organisation was facing crisis, and either refused to answer some questions or side stepped others, all the while asserting that he would continue with the election later this week, where he will now stand unopposed.

"Crisis? What is a crisis? Football is not in a crisis,'' said Blatter. "We are not in a crisis, we are only in some difficulties and these difficulties will be solved - and they will be solved inside this family.''

Former Scotland and Celtic striker Alan Brazil called on his morning show listeners to ‘boycott the sponsors of FIFA’ and to ‘bombard’ them through social media in order to force Blatter to resign. Sponsors include Adidas and Coca-Cola, both of which released statements which indicated that they were standing by the organisation.

“The current allegations being raised are distressing and bad for the sport. We have every expectation that FIFA will resolve this situation in an expedient and thorough manner,” said a spokesperson for Coca-Cola, while Adidas has said that publicity around FIFA was “neither good for football nor FIFA and its partners.”
