Ten creative and tech companies from the UK and beyond are to pitch for investment at London's first ever Software City event.

Software City originated in Liverpool and its aim is to provide funding, networking, investment and training opportunities for those in the digital and creative sectors.

It takes place on Monday at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and will see companies from Finland and the US go up against home grown businesses from Liverpool and the South East.

The South East contenders are AppShed, SemiTech Global, Unique Health, JamIT Media and Askvisory while Quire and New Mind will represent Liverpool.

Steve Smith, digital industry director at Liverpool Vision, said: "Software City has already enjoyed four years in its birthplace of Liverpool, but it is part of our ambition to spread the net as far as possible.

“As high quality companies come out of recession and early stage companies look to establish a foothold we must do all we can to get them here, sell the city as innovative, creative with a ready source of venture capital.

“I am excited about this event because it has attracted so much interest in the South East with around 75 companies from that region in trying to win a place at the final pitching session."
