Newspaper circulation figures continue to decline

Newspaper circulation figures have continued to decline in comparison to last year’s figures the latest ABC figures have revealed.

All newspapers, with the exception of the recently launched I, were down from August last year.

Circulation for national morning newspapers which includes The Sun, Daily Record, Daily Mirror and The Star fell from 5,349,685 to 4,960,618 in total while National Morning Mid marketing titles The Daily Express and the Daily Mail went from 2,761,805 to 2,735,876.

As a result of adding I’s circulation, as it was not in existence the previous August, the National Morning Quality titles such as The Herald, The Independent, I , The Times, The Scotsman, The Financial Times and The Daily Telegraph saw an increase in their total average daily sales from 2,153,782 to 2,157,552 despite losses all around.

National Sunday popular titles including The Daily Star Sunday, News of the World, Sunday Mail, Sunday Mirror and The People fell from 5,306,842 to 4,859,938 with the National Sunday Mid Market titles the Sunday Express, the Sunday Post and the Mail on Sunday falling to 2,856,577 to 2,891,691.

The National Sunday quality titles such as The Independent on Sunday, Scotland on Sunday, The Observer, The Sunday Herald, The Sunday Times and The Sunday Telegraph also saw a collective decline from 2,245,232 to 2,065,178 from last August.

The figures represent August to May 2011
