Inaugural Online Media Awards nominations announced
The shortlist of nominees for the inaugural Online Media Awards, sponsored by the Press Association, has been announced.
The awards aim to recognise the best in online journalism and has attracted entries from some of the world’s leading news websites such as The Guardian, Sunday Times and the Telegraph.
These entries will be judged by a panel which includes Andrew Jaspan, former editor of The Age, David Mill, former online editor of Mirror Group, Noel Young former group managing editor of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, Charles McGhee former editor of The Herald and Jim Chisolm former director of the World Association of Newspapers.
A sub-set of the jury has now assessed all the entries to create a shortlist which will be reviewed by the full jury over the next fortnight with the results being announced at a ceremony in London on 23 June.
Founder Gordon Young explained: “As online services develop there is no doubt that the quality of journalism will ultimately decide which platforms are simply a flash in the pan and which ones endure.
“That is why it is important that there is an event to recognise and celebrate who is getting it right.
“The standard of entries have been extremely high and this has ensured a high octane shortlist. Our judges really have their work cut out in terms of deciding who will pick up the prestigious awards in June.”
