Andrew Hawken has been promoted as the new head of digital for Sky News.

Hawken, who joined Sky in October 2006, has been given the responsibility for driving forward the broadcaster’s multi-platform strategy, working across all Sky News digital platforms such as the website, iPhone app, interactive TV and Sky News iPad app.

This will include Hawken overseeing all editorial and technical teams and focus on expanding and developing the Sky News multiplatform offering.

John Ryley, head of Sky News, said: "Andrew's huge wealth of editorial and new media experience puts him in prime position to drive forward Sky News' digital offering.

"Sky News has always been at the forefront of the digital media arena and I'm confident Andrew will guarantee its future success."

He replaces Julian March who left Sky News to join ITV as head of digital media, news and sport last month.
