High profile BBC presenter Andrew Marr has become the first celebrity to publicly admit seeking a High Court injunction over an extra marital affair with a fellow journalist.

Despite winning his injunction bid back in January 2008 Marr voluntarily confessed his infidelity when contacted by the Daily Mail, after admitting he was “embarrassed” and “uneasy” to be suppressing such information given his role.

Marr observed: “'I did not come into journalism to go around gagging journalists.”

The affair ended in 2003 but Marr, keen to draw a line under the affair, rescinded the order pointing out that such injunctions should not last “forever” and were getting “out of control”.

Marr insisted he had to protect his family and there was no public interest in the story.

There are currently around 30 such order in force protecting celebrities, raising concern from the Prime Minister down as to their stifling nature on public debate.
