The opening salvos in legal action between former Olympic athlete Brian Whittle and internet business TalentNation were fired at Hamilton Sheriff Court this afternoon.

Whittle is suing TalentNation claiming he is owed fees and salary.

TalentNation, which is headed by high-profile media personality Steve Sampson, is defending the action and its legal team made technical challenges in the 10 minute hearing. As a result the case was continued until May 17 where these legal points will be the subject of a Debate. Depending on this outcome a decision will taken on whether or not to move to a Proof where the facts of the case will be decided by a Sheriff.

Neither Whittle nor Sampson attended the hearing. TalentNation PLC, which positions itself as a sports social network that aims to identify up and coming stars, is backed by Scottish Enterprise to the tune of £1m and a variety of high-profile sports celebrities.

However, recently it emerged that a number of former workers, including Craig MacKenzie, the brother of Kelvin, were preparing to sue claiming that they had not been paid.
