Welsh manufacturers have been challenged by the Design Wales Service Programme to improve their service to customers in order to win more international work.

The Service Design programme was created to stimulate the advanced manufacturing and design sectors in Wales and help business access support to improve their services and find new areas for investment.

The call was made by Design Wales as it launched its new App ‘Testyourservice’ yesterday, which allows manufacturers to examine how well their services are performing.

Paul Thurston who will head up the programme, said that business should be doing more to develop their processes.

“The manufacturing industry has been through the mill in recent years, with pressure from developing nations and raw materials. Those forces are going to continue and if anything, get worse. The emphasis is on Welsh manufacturers to up their game and deliver high quality services, we hope, through design led innovation.”

The Service Design Programme will run as part of the International Institute of Design Policy and Support for undertaken by Design Wales for work undertaken with business support organisations within Wales.
